Carole Baijings: Defending her pink, also Saint Valentine’s and women in design!
Dutch Design Decant just landed in Brussels yesterday at MAD with a Creative Talk and a Colorful Lunch of our Dutch Textiles Princess Carole Baijings, who came to Brussels for her presentation at MAD and a guided tour about women in design of “Here we are! Women in design 1900-today”! The very last time I saw Carole was previous year when she visited Brussels on the occasion of another Creative Talk with Mr. Henrik LIBSKOV himself, who came to MAD all over from Scandinavia!
I must admit that two master-minds at MAD Dieter Van Den Storm and Anais Sandra Carion, both of whom I know the most, have been changing MAD’s parkour: its strategy, policy and approach for the future to come for better, bigger and brighter by managing Creative Talks and by inviting top designers to come to MAD! And, yes, they can!

So, was this time with Carole, whom I also know personally for 10 years at least and followi her work for not less than 20 years. She has ben always staying positively apart from the rest of Dutch Designers’ Domus! Carole is known for her work via creations of Scholten & Baijings Studio for Design and for the last design studio, which she created on her own: “Carole Baijings Studio for Design”!
Carole has been collaborating with stars, big names from the world of design and made significant contribution and impact to/for it anyway, but nowadays she is expanding her work geography-wise and discipline-wise! She showed during her exciting yesterday’s presentation, which co-insided with Saint-Valentines Day, how we all should challenge our assumption of working with different cultures and challenge our stereotypes on it! What works in the Netherlands will not work in Japan and vice versa! Carole knows it well.

She disclosed the fact that she has not only ambitions, but concrete plans to expand her talents and enter the world of sunglasses! I am thrilled to see her collection to come! Also she is planing to conquer fashion world! Her trademark is her smile-killer and you can recharge your batteries from her positive vibes, which she is spreading around! As her colorful and multifaceted design collections!
She is also a leading lady and today made a true “women power”- inspiring presentation in Brussels Design Museum! Its leading man, Arnoud Bozzini has been a restless captain and a curator par excellence of it! He was prod to have Carole as a guid of “Here we are! Women in design from 1900-till now” expo, creatively and colorful guided by Carole! Indeed, in a previously dominated world of design, women have been giving colors and capture what men couldn’t! We did enjoy Carole’s personal insights of it!
Our favorite color during these two last days was pink, “Carole Baijings’ pink”! May be because the world looks pink for both of us? Or because it symbolizes unconditional love!
